If none of the patients could recall the pictures, Dr Fenwick said, it would suggest the experiences were not real.
“It will show that there is some mechanism in the brain that is creating these scenarios.”

Blog：Students get meningitis warning

University students are to be warned about the dangers of meningitis when they return for the new academic year in October.
The Meningitis Research Foundation is sending leaflets to 800 universities, detailing how to detect signs of the disease.
Student welfare officers will distribute the leaflets.
There were about 70 recorded cases of meningitis last year on campuses last year including 15 deaths.
The worst outbreak occurred at Southampton University where six students picked up the infection, three of whom died.

Japan does not tell death row prisoners that they are to be hanged until the last possible minute.
This has been condemned by the international community.
The failure to give advanced notice of executions is incompatible with articles 2, 7 and 10 of the International Covenant on Civil and Human Rights, according to the United Nations Human Rights Committee.

Californian voters have chosen to ban same-sex marriage, months after it was legalised by the state’s top court.
The measure restricting marriage to heterosexual couples gained 52% support – more than 5.1 million votes – with nearly all precincts declaring results.
Twenty-seven US states already ban same-sex marriage. California’s legal approval had seen thousands of gay couples wed there since May.
State Attorney General Jerry Brown has said those marriages will remain valid.
Legal challenges to the measure, known as Proposition 8, are likely.
The referendum called for the California constitution to be amended by adding the phrase that: “Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognised in California.”
The BBC’s Peter Bowes in Los Angeles says that for many liberal Californians, on a day when Barack Obama was swept to victory, the election was a bittersweet experience.
He said they won the White House – but lost on an issue many believed had already been resolved by the courts.
Conservative groups have welcomed the ban.
“People believe in the institution of marriage” said Frank Schubert, co-manager of the Yes on 8 campaign.
“It’s one institution that crosses ethnic divides, that crosses partisan divides.”
But gay rights supporters vowed to fight on.
Kate Kendall, executive director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights said “there has been enormous movement in favour of full equality in eight short years”.
“That is the direction this is heading, and if it’s not today or tomorrow, it will be soon,” she added.
Florida and Arizona also backed proposals to ban gay marriage, by 62% and 56%

In court on Wednesday, Montoya apologised for his role in the cocaine trade, saying that he had “come to the conclusion that there is nothing I could ever do to repair the great harm I have caused”.
Approving the 45-year sentence requested by the prosecution, Judge Cecilia Altonaga said she recognised Montoya’s “remorse” and his “new transition” to a life of repentance.
She also ordered Montoya to pay $500,000 in restitution to the family of Jhon Jairo Garcia, a long-time associate of Montoya who was kidnapped, tortured and murdered by the Valle del Norte cartel in 2003.
The prosecution said Montoya had ordered the killing of Jhon Jairo Garcia after accusing him of becoming an informer for US law enforcement forces.
Mr Garcia’s dismembered body was found in a river near the Colombian city of Cali.
Montoya is reported to have said that it was his “sincere hope to be able to bring relief to my family and the families of the victims and bring their nightmare to a conclusion”.
